Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) is a unique patch medication indicated for the treatment of overactive bladder, with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency. Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) is now available by prescription through pharmacies across Canada. Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) is a thin, flexible, clear patch that should be applied to the abdomen, hip or buttock twice weekly. The active ingredient in Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) is oxybutynin, a medication widely accepted and prescribed in oral formulation for the past 25 years. Before using Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches), tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: other bladder problems (bladder outflow obstruction), certain muscle disease (myasthenia gravis), stomach/intestinal disease (e.g., acid reflux, hiatal hernia, ulcerative colitis, intestinal atony), heart problems (e.g., coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias), high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease, overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), enlarged prostate, certain nervous system disorder (autonomic neuropathy). Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) may make you dizzy, drowsy, or cause blurred vision; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or operating machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) can cause decreased sweating. Avoid becoming overheated in hot weather, saunas, or during exercise or other strenuous activities since heatstroke may occur. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to its side effects. Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known whether Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you also take drugs that cause drowsiness such as: certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine), anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), medicine for sleep (e.g., sedatives), muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), tranquilizers. Check the labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of those products. Store Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in the original sealed pouch away from heat or light. Brief storage between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) in the bathroom. Keep Oxytrol (Oxybutynin Patches) away from children and pets.
