Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) is a medicine that is converted into amprenavir in the body. Amprenavir is an HIV protease inhibitor type of antiviral medicine. Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) is used in combination with other medicines to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) works to slow the growth of the virus.
Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) is not a cure for HIV infection. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Lexiva (Fosamprenavir). INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking before taking Lexiva (Fosamprenavir). DO NOT TAKE Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) if you are also taking amprenavir, astemizole, bepridil, pimozide, cisapride, eletriptan, delavirdine, ergot alkaloids (such as ergotamine or dihydroergotamine), rifampin, terfenadine, certain cholesterol medicines (such as lovastatin or simvastatin), certain benzodiazepines (such as diazepam, midazolam, flurazepam, or triazolam), erythromycin, garlic capsules or tablets, or St. John's wort. DO NOT TAKE flecainide or propafenone if you are taking Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) with ritonavir. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking other anti-HIV medicines (such as lopinavir, ritonavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, saquinavir, efavirenz, or nevirapine), "blood thinners" (such as warfarin), antifungal medicines (such as ketoconazole or itraconazole), calcium channel blockers (such as diltiazem, verapamil, or amlodipine), certain macrolide antibiotics (such as clarithromycin), dexamethasone, certain stomach medicines (such as ranitidine or omeprazole), seizure medicine (such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, or phenytoin), medicine for erectile dysfunction (such as vardenafil, tadalafil, or sildenafil), immunosuppressant medicines (such as cyclosporine, sirolimus, or tacrolimus), birth control, buspirone, dapsone, eplerenone, fluoxetine, halofantrine, isotretinoin, methadone or other narcotic pain medicines (such as codeine or morphine), rifabutin, tricyclic antidepressants (such as amitriptyline or nortriptyline), medicines for irregular heartbeat (such as amiodarone, quinidine, or lidocaine), trazodone, darifenacin, solifenacin, or medicine for diabetes. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including liver problems (such as hepatitis), kidney problems, diabetes, bleeding problems (such as hemophilia), cholesterol or lipid problems, infection, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Routine use of Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) is NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of severe liver problems. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Lexiva (Fosamprenavir). Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) side effects that may occur while taking Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, tiredness, gas, or diarrhea. See your doctor as soon as possible if you experience muscle pain or tenderness while taking Lexiva (Fosamprenavir). CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience swollen, reddened, or blistered skin; dark urine; yellowing of the skin or eyes; tingling around the mouth; unusual increase in thirst or urination; or change in mood (depression), emotions, or behavior. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to Lexiva (Fosamprenavir) include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other adverse effects from Lexiva (Fosamprenavir), contact your doctor, nurse, and/or pharmacist. |
