Janumet is a prescription tablet that contains two chemicals sitagliptin (Januvia) and metformin (Glucophage). Janumet (Sitagliptin/Metformin) is used along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in peole who have type 2 diabetes (a serious health condition when your body does not make enough insulin, and the insulin that your body produces does not work as well as it should). It is also for patients who have already taken either Januvia (Sitagliptin) or Glucophage (Metformin) and their blood sugar is not controlled well enough with just one medicine. Janumet (Sitagliptin/Metformin) is also prescribed for patients who are currently taking Januvia and Glucophage (metformin) together but as separate tablets.
Janumet (Sitagliptin/Metformin) works to improve the insulin levels after meals and helps the body respond better to the insulin it makes naturally. Janumet (Sitagliptin/Metformin) should not be prescribed to patients who have type 1 diabetes or for those patients who have kidney disease or problems. This is because Janumet (Sitagliptin/Metformin) contains a chemical called Metformin which is know to cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis. Build up of lactic acid in the blood can be fatal and therefore must be treated immediately in a hospital. Report your full medical history to your doctor before taking this medicine. Only they can decide whether it is safe for you to take this medicine or not especially if you have these conditions: -kidney problems. -liver problems. -heart problems, including congestive heart failure. -older than 80 years (do not take Janumet unless you have normal kidney function) -high alcoholic consumption -pregnant (or planning to be) -breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed Common side effects of taking Janumet: -stuffy or runny nose and sore throat -diarrhea -nausea and vomiting -gas, stomach discomfort, indigestion -weakness -headaches It is very important to treat your diabetes. If diabetes is left untreated, you may face serious health conditions such as such as heart problems, kidney problems, blindness, and amputation of limbs. Store Janumet (Sitagliptin/Metformin) at room temperature, 68-77ºF (20-25ºC). Do not store in washrooms or near high heat as this could expose to medicine to moisture and heat which may spoil the medicine. |
